Full cryogenic specimen preparation is available, including freezing, preparation and observation at liquid nitrogen and above temperatures. Such specimen preparations avoid many of the artifacts present in specimens prepared using conventional techniques. Material usually prepared by critical point-drying can be observed fully hydrated; those usually prepared by using aqueous solvents may be freeze-dried. Cryogenic storage is also available for selected samples. Specimens that are altered by preparation at room temperature may benefit significantly from use of this technology.
