A key mechanism to help facilitate inclusivity and motivate cross-disciplinary teaming is embodied by the partnership between the Office of the Vice President for Research and Partnerships and the Provost’s Office Center for Faculty Excellence.
This partnership creates open workshops aimed at informing faculty, staff and students of the mission and goals of each of the multidisciplinary centers and institutes supported by the OVPRP and allows for networking that could lead to the creation of convergent teams that work together to pursue ambitious sponsored research opportunities.
On Feb. 21, CFE and the Advanced Radar Research Center co-hosted a workshop to bring OU researchers from across campus together to ideate on radar research topics that impact society’s challenges, followed by a tour of the Radar Innovations Laboratory. Discussion on several topics explored multidisciplinary research approaches:
OU is recognized as the largest academic radar research program in the country in weather and more recently in the defense arena. The ARRC shared readings from equipment such as the PX-1000 polarimetric radar and the Horus All-Digital Mobile Testbed, which is designed to be scalable, upgradable, maintainable and operate in real-time.
Ongoing discussion in any of these topics is encouraged. Any OU faculty member interested in learning more or helping shape the research direction of the areas identified above is encouraged to generate a one-page summary of their research proposal and work with CFE to help find partners and begin seeking external funding.
Future OVPRP/CFE events will be posted at the OVPRP event page as they are planned, and promoted through the Research Insider newsletter, Provost's Academic Bulletin and OVPRP social media.
