We are working on several aspects of our BIC project with topical goals being to:
- Determine carbon capture potential (rate of CO2 fixation) of various biomass sources or types of vegetation
- Quantify conversion efficiency of biomass to bio-oil during (fast) pyrolysis
- Assess impact, on soil nutrient content, of utilizing waste biomass for bio-oil production
- Estimate carbon emissions resulting from facility and equipment usage during biomass production, biomass harvesting, biomass conversion, bio-oil transport, and bio-oil injection
- Synthesize all data into life cycle assessments (LCAs) for various scenarios of the cradle-to-grave process
- Optimize the negative carbon emissions, using the LCA, that would result from implementing the process in the southern mid-Continent
