OU Announces Third Annual Entrepreneurship Expo Winners

Price College of Business | Entrepreneurship Expo | The University of Oklahoma

Winners of this year’s University of Oklahoma Entrepreneurship Expo have been announced, with awards going to teams in five divisions. The annual expo serves as a public exhibition for students, local business owners and entrepreneurs of all ages, including K-12 students, to showcase new products and services, receive feedback, and compete for top prizes.

The OU Entrepreneurship Expo is a product of the Michael F. Price College of Business’s Tom Love Division of Entrepreneurship and Economic Development. This year’s event was held online Nov. 16-20 to coincide with Global Entrepreneurship Week, with a virtual awards ceremony posted Nov. 19.

“Each year, the Expo sparks innovations, relationships, sales and investment conversations—even in the midst of global pandemic,” said Denise Parris, assistant professor of entrepreneurship. “This year’s exhibitors had the courage to take a step toward making their ideas a reality by highlighting how entrepreneurship can positively impact our communities, nation and world. We look forward to seeing the exhibitors’ businesses evolve, the new ideas which are sparked, and seeing even more participants at the 2021 OU Entrepreneurship Expo.”

For this year’s online format, applicants submitted short videos describing their businesses, and a panel of guest judges selected top businesses from each division.

The Pre-Seed division, which features early-stage startup companies that have not received external funding, is divided into four age groups. This year’s first-place winners are Spalicious (elementary); Smooth Sands Construction (high school); JUNO (college); and Net’s Mini Market (community). First place for the Seed division, which includes companies that have incorporated and are seeking to grow, was awarded to Wristworld.

In a first, the Expo received applications from teams outside of Oklahoma and the United States, with three other states and the African country of Malawi represented. A full list of award winners, plus application videos and the awards ceremony video, are available on the OU Entrepreneurship Expo’s website at http://price.ou.edu/ouexpo.

This year’s event Seed Sponsors are Armstrong Bank, the Oklahoma City Innovation District, the Norman Economic Development Coalition and the University of Oklahoma Foundation, plus Startup Sponsors BancFirst and Francis Tuttle Technology Center.

The Michael F. Price College of Business has experienced significant growth over the past five years in the number of faculty, staff and students and has become OU’s second-largest college, with more than 4,900 students. The college offers undergraduate, master’s, executive and doctoral programs across six academic divisions in Accounting, Entrepreneurship and Economic Development, Finance, Management and International Business, Management Information Systems, and Marketing and Supply Chain Management.
