At a reception held May 3, faculty, staff and friends at the Michael F. Price College of Business at the University of Oklahoma joined with members of the Dolman family to recognize the naming of a new suite of offices. Due to his past and ongoing support of Price College’s study abroad program for OU students, the college named new offices after Steve Dolman, a 1985 finance alumnus, and his family.

In 2010, Dolman created a study abroad scholarship endowment to support Price College of Business students into perpetuity. Since then, 15 Price students have received financial assistance from Doman’s scholarship in order to study abroad.

“Today, we celebrate our dear friend and prince of a man, Steve Dolman,” said Daniel Pullin, former dean and Fred E. Brown Chair of the Michael F. Price College of Business. “Thank you, Steve, for your heartfelt sentiment, and thank you, again, for supporting the globalization goals of the Price College of Business.”

At a May 10 OU Board of Regents meeting, an official proclamation was included in the formal agenda.

“In recognition of the exceptional contributions of Mr. Dolman to the University of Oklahoma and the pursuit of providing world-wide experiential opportunities for University of Oklahoma business students, it is proposed that the area in which the Price College Study Abroad Office is located be named the Steve Dolman Family Study Abroad Office,” the proclamation reads.

Participation in study abroad programs has been on the rise. Twelve years ago, only 2.3% of Price College students studied abroad. By 2013, that number increased to 12%. This year, approximately 40% of business graduates studied abroad, and the college anticipates that number will reach 50% by 2022.

“As businesses in Oklahoma and around the world need employees with global leadership skills, it is imperative that we prepare our future leaders as graduates armed with the knowledge, understanding and cultural intelligence to succeed in today’s global marketplace,” Pullin said.

In 2017, the Globalization Committee was formed in the Price College of Business to provide guidance, strategic assessment and cohesion to the numerous globalization initiatives in the college. The committee evaluated the existing globalization efforts pursued in Price College, including study abroad, curriculum content, research, experiential learning and joint agreements at the undergraduate and graduate level. The committee proposed the following three recommendations centered around three study abroad priorities: further internationalization of the curriculum, developing the international/global culture of the college and reducing the cost of international business education.

“This is such an incredible opportunity for students, made possible by the generosity of many of our alumni and stakeholders who have created scholarships to provide these opportunities for our students,” Pullin said.

Dolman, of Houston, earned his master of arts degree and MBA from the University of Southern California and his master of international management degree from the Thunderbird School of Global Management at Arizona State University.

He is senior managing director of Hines and a member of the Hines Office of Investments, a privately owned real estate firm involved in real estate investment, development and property management worldwide. He worked and lived in São Paulo, Brazil, helping to establish Hines’ South America region and manage the development of offices and industrial projects there.

Dolman received the OU Regents’ Alumni Award in 1995, serves on the Board of Advisors for the Price College of Business and is a member of the college’s Arthur B. Adams Society.

Additional study abroad gifts have been given by Tom and Cathy Luccock, Brian and Daryl Cantrell, Archie and Linda Dunham, Winnie Freshour, Ryan and Samantha Suchala, the family of William Alley, Bill and Millie Audas, Marie Polega, Kristen Angus Best, W.R. and Judy Howell, the family of Nicholas Adwon, Michael and Robin Marcotte, Clark and Kay Musser and Steve Long.

The Michael F. Price College of Business, originally established in 1928, ensures the enduring global competitiveness of Oklahoma and the nation. As OU’s second-largest college, the Price College of Business educates more than 4,500 students through undergraduate, master’s, doctoral and executive programs across six academic divisions in Accounting, Entrepreneurship and Economic Development, Finance, Management and International Business, Management Information Systems and Marketing and Supply Chain Management.
