Globus File Transfer
Globus is a secure, high-performance file transfer service designed for moving large datasets between computers, storage systems, and research institutions. The University of Oklahoma provides several Globus collections for accessing OSCER storage resources.
OU Globus Collections
The following OU Globus collections are available on OSCER endpoints:
OURdisk endpoint:
- U Oklahoma OURdisk -- OFFN
OURRstore endpoint:
- U Oklahoma OURRstore -- OFFN
Using Globus with an OU Account
NOTE: These instructions are for users with a valid University of Oklahoma account (faculty, staff and students)
Logging In
- Go to https://www.globus.org/
- Click on Log In
- In the organization search box, begin typing University of Oklahoma
- Select University of Oklahoma from the list and click Continue
- You will be redirected to the OU Single Sign-on Page
- Sign in with your OUNetID and OU password
- If prompted to authorize Globus, click Allow to continue
Accessing an OSCER Collection
- In the left navigation menu, click File Manager
- Two panels will appear, allowing you to select the source and destination collections for your file transfer
- In the Collection field, type U Oklahoma to display the available OU collections
- Select the appropriate OU collection
- When prompted, enter your OSCER username and password to access the selected collection
- After successful authentication, the connection's file system will be displayed
- You can now transfer files between the selected OSCER collection and another Globus collection by selecting files and clicking Transfer or Sync to...
Setting up Globus Connect Personal
To transfer files between an OSCER collection and your personal computer, you must first install Globus Connect Personal. See here for Globus's official documentation for additional details.
- In the Collection field, click the blue Get Globus Connect Personal link.
- Download and run the installer.
- Launch Globus Connect Personal after installation.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your personal collection.
- Sign in to Globus and authorize Globus Connect Personal Setup when prompted.
- Enter a name for your collection (for example, my_pc), click Save, and then exit the setup.
- Return to the Globus File Manager.
- Under Your Collections, select your personal collection (for example, my_pc). You can now transfer files between your computer and other Globus collections.
Note: If your personal collection does not appear in the File Manager after setup, click Collections in the left navigation menu, select your private collection (for example, my_pc), click the right-arrow button, and choose Open in File Manager.
Terminology
Endpoint: A network location (server, cluster, personal computer) configured to use Globus services
Collection: A named location (like a folder) within an endpoint that can be shared or accessed via Globus.
Globus Connect Personal: Software that turns your laptop into a Globus endpoint for personal transfers
