Archaeology education - or bringing archaeology to K-12 classrooms - has been a central mission to OKPAN since our founding in 2016. After 7 years of writing lesson plans, visiting classrooms, and teaching professional development workshops, we have decided it is time to evaluate what we are doing AND learn from you what you, as an Oklahoma teacher, really need from us!
To do this, OKPAN's Meghan Dudley (Archaeology Education Coordinator) and Kaylyn Moore (Director of Operations) are conducting a research study with Drs. McLeod and Pitblado through ethnographic interviews with teachers to understand: 1) what it is like to really be an Oklahoma teacher in 2023 (as archaeologists, we don't know!), and 2) if we are actually providing content that helps you.
Would you be interested in participating in our research on Oklahoma’s teaching culture and archaeology education? If you are at least 18 years of age and a resident of or are knowledgeable about Oklahoma K-12 education, we’d like to talk to you! Interviews are unstructured and take 20 to 90 minutes (depending on how much you would like to share with us) and will be centered around your experiences of teaching in a K-12 classroom in Oklahoma. You will be compensated $25 and receive a copy of Project Archaeology: Investigating Shelter (a $50 value) for participating.
Please contact Meghan and Kaylyn at okarchaeology@gmail.com for more information.
