Earthquake Catalog

These catalogs are lists of earthquakes that have occured within Oklahoma. Each earthquake is accompanied by detailed information regarding its location and size. The Catalogs found here are fairly complete to a minimum magnitude of 2.9 from 1980 to present, a minimum magnitude of 3.6 from 1960 to present, and a minimum magnitude of 5.0 from 1897 to present. Each catalog year, or range of years, has many downloadable file formats. Refer to Catalog Header Descriptions beow for explanations on catalog column headers.

How to View Catalogs in Google Earth

Step 1:

Choose the catalog you would like to view (sorted by date). Near the bottom of the list are the more useful 'past30days' or 'complete' options. Note that the 'complete' option will be quite large.

Step 2:

Once you click a catalog to view, a list of file types will be displayed for download. Download the '.kml' version of the file.

Step 3:

Then, in Google Earth, go to 'file' and 'open', then select the .kml file you downloaded. The events for that particular catalog should then show up in Google Earth.
