Welcome to the Mewbourne School of Petroleum and Geological Engineering. We are in the beginning of an energy transition where the world expects us to provide equitable and affordable energy while we decarbonize the energy system. Over the last few decades technological advancements in horizontal drilling and unconventional resource development have made new natural gas and oil resources available. The next generation of energy engineers' challenge is to decarbonize the energy system to reduce the impact of climate change. What the future energy system will look like is uncertain and the engineers joining this field now will be the ones creating this future. However, the one thing that is certain is: energy is the foundation for prosperity.
For Petroleum engineers it means we will have to reduce emissions, use CO2 for enhancing natural gas and oil production, and transform natural gas into hydrogen. Our skillset is also needed to permanently store carbon in the subsurface, develop geothermal energy and use the underground for energy storage.
We offer GeoEnergy Engineering and Petroleum Engineering undergraduate degrees. The GeoEnergy program is a new program starting Fall 2023 which will jumpstart your career directly into the energy transition and the fast-growing integrated energy sector. Our Petroleum Engineering program is consistently ranked top three in the nation and is giving you a direct path to become a professional licensed petroleum engineer ready to work for the oil and natural gas industry.
For deeper specialization our school has MS and PhD degrees in Petroleum Engineering and an online MS degree in Natural Gas Engineering and Management for working professionals. We also offer a 5-year Accelerated MBA program and Petroleum Engineering MS program.

Our laboratories and facilities are state of the art, and we strive to make your experience here exceptional.
