About IRADS
IRADS (Integrated Radar Data Services) was an outgrowth of Project CRAFT (Collaborative Radar Acquisition Field Test), which was a multi-institutional research project pioneered by the University of Oklahoma in 1999 to demonstrate the capability of transmitting Level II data over the Internet.
Based upon the success of CRAFT, the National Weather Service implemented an Internet-based Level II data delivery system and selected the University of Oklahoma to serve as a formal top-tier distribution site. IRADS was moved to the developing Research Campus at OU and has been an integral part of attracting collaboration opportunities. Because of the success of IRADS, OU is growing IRADS into IRADS (Integrated Robust Assured Data Services). As IRADS grows, the data offerings will also grow to accomodate current and future business, government and research needs.
IRADS on Campus
IRADS is strategically located on the OU Research Campus. We have become an integral piece of the large plan for the future of the University of Oklahoma.
Our present location allows for close interaction with our clients that are located on campus.
The University also provides us access to Internet2 and National Lambda Rail internet backbones. These two network backbones are not directly availble to commercial businesses, but we are able to leverage these networks to collect valuable data as quickly as is currently possible.
Award Winning Tradition
Working with NOAA affiliates and UCAR, the University of Oklahoma pioneered the delivery of NEXRAD Level-II data via the Internet, winning the NOAATech 2002 Award. OU now continues that record of excellence by providing an operational service to meet your real time, mission-critical Level-II data needs.
