The vision of the Institute for Community and Society Transformation is to transform societies by setting the national standard for convergent, community-engaged research and creative activity.
The mission of ICAST is to reduce inequity and forge new pathways toward positive societal transformation through community-engaged research and creative activity that advances health and well-being, social justice, arts and humanities, education, and technological and workforce adaptations.
ICAST’s mission centers around three strategic areas of emphasis identified and developed by a multidisciplinary team of OU faculty members as part of a strategic planning process in 2020.
Equity and Opportunity – Developing research and community partnerships to understand and address drivers of education and health disparities.
Technology and Society – Understanding technology opportunities and threats as they impact human health and well-being to inform technology design, development, and policy.
Native Nations Sovereignty and Cultures – Partnering with Native Nations to shape research, scholarship and creative activity that supports sovereignty and cultural continuance.
