2023 Reaffirmation of Accreditation

The University of Oklahoma has been accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) since 1913, the first year that the Commission started accrediting institutions of higher learning. HLC is one of seven historically regional accrediting agencies recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

In May 2023, OU hosted an HLC Peer Review Team for a Comprehensive Site Visit and review of accreditation status. This review completes the 10-year accreditation cycle called the Open Pathway, which focuses on quality assurance and institutional improvement. The HLC 2023 Comprehensive Evaluation ensured OU is meeting HLC's Criteria for Accreditation while pursuing institutional improvement and complying with certain federal regulations set by the U.S. Department of Education.

A team of approximately 50 members of the OU faculty, staff, and administration worked diligently on the materials for the Comprehensive Site Visit. They highlighted the dedication and work of the OU community to achieve the goals set forth in the Lead On, University Strategic Plan and fulfillment of OU's purpose: We Change Lives.
