What an exciting time to be at Gaylord College and for the JayMac Alumni Association!
In the last four years, Gaylord’s enrollment has grown 20% and JayMac has played a large part in that. Many alumni across the state and country have assisted in the hand-delivered admissions box experience, resulting in 77 boxes delivered to in-state prospects (with 65 of those already enrolled to be a part of the class of 2023).
In 2018, JayMac helped Gaylord College establish the Dean’s Leadership Class. Many of you may be aware of the President’s Leadership Class and President’s Community Scholars. Gaylord College saw the potential in establishing a similar program for freshmen students who have declared a Gaylord major as an opportunity for Gaylord to cultivate leaders early on and establish a relationship with our students from day one. This year, I'm proud to report 33 students were offered spots in 2019, and all 33 have accepted!
There is a wealth of knowledge and talent walking in and out of the doors of Gaylord Hall every day. My hope is that as alumni, we can help grow this connection with our students, pass on our life lessons and cultivate these young professionals to help our college continue to grow. The JayMac board is always searching for ways to reconnect alumni with their alma mater (come visit any time!) and connect alumni not only with each other, but also with our students.
Here is my challenge to you: think about how you would like to get involved. Want to deliver an admissions box to a prospective student in your area? Want to mentor another alum in your field? Or a student eager to break into your profession? Let us know and we'll make it happen.
Scholarships are also a great way to impact Gaylord and we would love to connect you with one of our many deserving students. While our graduates leave the university equipped with the best degree on campus, we all know the future looks tough for our field. We need you now more than ever to help our grads connect, contribute and make an impact.
