Growing up miles from the OU campus in Norman, JayMac President Katy Koontz’s affinity with the university grew stronger with each legendary football season and memorable campus visit. Going from fan to student, and now OU employee, her OU journey has come full circle as she commences her JayMac leadership role.
A public relations graduate, Koontz began her OU career in 2013 as assistant director of communications in recruitment services. Two years later, Koontz stepped into her current role where she develops OU websites from start to finish, administers staff training and provides site maintenance for more than 500 university websites.
“What I am looking forward to most about being the president for JayMac is reconnecting our alumni with Gaylord College,” Koontz said. “I want to share with them the good work being done at Gaylord College and introduce them to our bright students.”
Prior to coming to OU, Koontz worked at the United Way of Central Oklahoma and served as the chapter advisor for Alpha Chi Omega, Psi chapter at OU for several years. Currently, she mentors potential new members during Panhellenic Association formal recruitment and volunteers with the university’s Advocates program on campus.
Koontz looks forward to launching JayMac’s first-ever student-alumni mentorship program, a partnership that will strengthen relationships with Gaylord alumni, as well as provide our graduates an opportunity to positively impact students’ learning and development.
“We have such a vast, diverse group of alumni scattered around the world – many who have not been back on campus since graduating,” Koontz said. “I know our alumni have a lot to share, and we have such an incredible group of students who could benefit from connecting with our alumni base.”
