Rivers & Roads: Steven Yazzie in Action

Rivers & Roads: Steven Yazzie in Action brings together selections from two ongoing series that explore movement, place, and our evolving relationship with the environment. In Drawing & Driving and Drifting & Painting, Yazzie (Diné/Laguna Pueblo) introduces motion into the creative process itself, creating works at sites in Colorado while riding a bike or floating a river by raft. Accompanied by video documentation of these immersive processes, the series reveal how movement, environment, and lived experience fundamentally shape artistic expression.
As part of the exhibition, Yazzie will create a new Drawing & Driving work on the University of Oklahoma Norman campus, and will take time during his visit to connect with local veterans.
Yazzie is a member of the Navajo Nation and a Gulf War veteran. He has exhibited widely across the United States and Canada and currently lives and works in Denver, Colorado. Rivers & Roads marks his first exhibition in Oklahoma.
