The Political Landscape--Signs and Symbols

Just as natural features of the land reveal characteristics of society (e.g. development of fishing industries and societies near bays and oceans), man-made monuments, whether churches, cemeteries, or banners, reflect cultural values and priorities.

This series of web pages will list some political expressions. Church architecture might reveal the primary religious faith of a society, as well as telling where that denomination evolved. In turn, this institution might have considerable influence over family and/or birth control practices, which are in the political sphere of society. Memorials, as well, portray what society believes in, collectively, given changing times. Check back often as we will regularly add additional photos.
