Kimberly West is the Director of National Recruitment for the Office of Admissions & Recruitment at the University of Oklahoma. She manages staff located in California, Colorado, Illinois, Kansas, and Texas, who are responsible for connecting with prospective students, families, and other constituents to show them all that OU has to offer. Kimberly and her team’s ultimate goal is to recruit incoming freshmen from outside the state of Oklahoma.
Kimberly graduated in the early 2000s from OU with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She went on to earn a Master’s degree in Human Relations as well from the university. Having fallen in love with OU, she immediately began work in Prospective Student Services recruiting students from the Oklahoma City Metro Area. Kimberly soon transitioned into working with current students by serving as the Assistant Director of Student Life and Coordinator of African American Student Life. In these roles, she gave support to students during their OU experience. Additionally, she was an advisor to a number of student organizations including the Black Student Association and the National PanHellenic Council. When a longing to return to her home state of Texas arose, Kimberly returned to her recruitment roots and has worked to recruit the next generation of Sooners from the Lone Star State ever since.
My best advice for a high school junior or senior preparing to apply to college:
Know yourself. Spend some time deciding what you want from your college experience and find the place that will provide most if not all of those things. Trust yourself. This time can be stressful, but if you have researched, applied, and visited your top schools, then you will make the right decision.
