Tutors for High School Algebra Needed


 

The Transformative Tutoring Initiative at the Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education is seeking OU students interested in tutoring algebra I with high school students for the 2024-25 academic year.

Each tutor will work with two high school students three times per week on-site during school hours at five different sites in the surrounding community.

  • $9,400 each year -- $2,000 scholarship each semester and $2,700 stipend each semester.*
  • Tutors will be expected to participate in 40 to 60 hours of training during the fall semester and ongoing training/meetings throughout the academic year. Weekly commitment is 6-8 hours on average, inclusive of training and tutoring.
  • Tutors will be asked to sign up for a 1.5 hour training session every Monday.
  • Tutors are required to have a grade of B or better in College Algebra or its equivalent and at least one course beyond College Algebra (or its equivalent).
  • Tutors are required to maintain a 3.0 GPA.
  • All tutors will be required to pass a background check.
  • All tutors will be required to participate in weekly research reports
  • Tutors provide their own transportation to and from the school site.
  • International students are encouraged to apply.

* Students should be aware that offered financial aid disbursements could be affected. International students need to be aware that the stipend in this program may be subject to tax withholding.
