The organizations that lead in the 21st century and beyond must be flexible, transformative, and responsive. OU prepares college of education graduate students, regardless of program, to work in a range of settings, such as education institutions, non-profits, small businesses, and even large corporations.
The M.Ed. emphasizes critical inquiry through activities and research to prepare educators to lead and manage complex organizations. The program suits working professionals expected to serve with distinction in demanding positions while completing the degree. The degree is a building and/or district-level leadership skills program approved by the Oklahoma State Department of Education for certification purposes. Mentored, organized fieldwork is an integral part of the program.

“My time in the EACS program at OU was invaluable in shaping my thinking and, ultimately, my life trajectory as an educator, an administrator, a thought leader, and a school pioneer. The engagement with faculty and colleagues gave me many opportunities to sharpen my thinking around core concepts related to educational equity, administration, leadership, design, and development. I was pushed far beyond my comfort zone in good ways that forced me to reconsider the "why" behind education, which led to my working to reimagine education around human and communal flourishing. Being allowed to push my thinking opened doors for publication and presentations I would not ordinarily have received, and the encouragement I was given, especially by faculty and my committee, strengthened my ability to work for healthier visions and versions of transformational education. There is no way I am doing what I am doing now were it not for the EACS program at OU."
"Attending the EACS program at OU was truly transformative for me. It pushed me to reassess my thinking and research methods, offering fresh perspectives on education from theory to practice. The program significantly bolstered my leadership skills, thanks to professors who pushed me beyond my perceived limits. Despite its challenges, the experience was profoundly enlightening and unforgettable. Professionally, it has unlocked opportunities that I would not have encountered otherwise. Furthermore, the relationships forged with colleagues and professors during this program have become essential to my professional network. They serve as a valuable resource for seeking advice and guidance whenever necessary."
"When I decided to pursue a master’s in educational leadership and curriculum development, I wanted an institution with a program that combined theory, research, and practice. I found that in the EACS program at the University of Oklahoma.
My time in the program was pivotal in shaping my thinking, leadership, and life trajectory as an educator, an administrator, a catalyst for change and development, and a school pioneer. The program's hallmarks are the balance of reading academic material, projects, and engagement with faculty and colleagues.
The program’s unique balance provided me with many opportunities to hone my thinking around critical concepts related to educational equity, administration, leadership design, academic design, implementation of technology, stewardship of human and financial resources, developing educators and support staff, community partnership, and overall development. I was challenged both by the professors and my colleagues in positive ways to consider the “why” behind education, which led to my rethinking, re-planning, and development around human and community development.
The opportunities to push my thinking opened doors for publication and presentations I would have never experienced. The encouragement from the faculty and my committee strengthened my ability to work for comprehensive and healthier versions of transformational leadership and education.
I am indebted to the University of Oklahoma and the Masters in Educational Leadership and Curriculum Development. There is no way I would be doing what I am doing now were it not for the EACS program at OU."
"Without hyperbole, I can state that the investment of my time and resources into earning my Masters in EACS at the University of Oklahoma has proven to be the single most important catalyst in my career. The professors were among the very best educators I have personally experienced (not always the case in higher education, to be honest!) The content and course structure were practical and important as I began my work as an education leader, and the networking connections to like-minded professionals provided essential support as I progressed in my work.
I am genuinely grateful to OU for their investment in me, which I have tried to reciprocate by investing in Oklahoma learners. I highly recommend the Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education and the EACS program to anyone serious about becoming a world-class educator."
