JRCoE Welcomes Future Educators

Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education faculty, staff and students welcomed approximately 75 prospective high school students from around the state on March 31 to particpate in the inaugural OU Bound campus preview day.

OU Bound is a one-day event where students interested in pursuing a career in education are invited to the OU campus to learn more about the college and its programs. Parents, guardians and school counselors took part in separate events where they were given information on funding opportunities for students, campus life and other resources.

The day began with an education fair and registration at the Oklahoma Memorial Union. Students were able to visit tables representing various programs on campus such as Study Abroad, Transformative Tutoring Initiative, graduate programs and student groups.

After a welcome from Dean Stacy Reeder and current JRCoE students in Meacham Auditorium, everyone made their way to Collings Hall where the students were split into groups to attend information sessions. These sessions were run by JRCoE faculty to give students an idea of what they might learn in classes at OU, as well as showing examples of how being an educator can impact the lives of others.

After a lunch in Collings Hall, students and parents moved to Gould Hall where a panel of current students and teachers held a question and answer session. After a successful first event, the goal is to hold OU Bound each year as a way to get high schoolers interested in a career in education.
