Military public affairs professionals discount the entertainment industry's portrayal of the military. Independently produced movies have a more salient and longer lasting effect on public perception than service produced commercials or local press. These images manufactured by the entertainment industry linger in the publics' mind and in turn influences their beliefs concerning the military. The effect of such strong, perception-building images cannot be ignored.
