The University of Oklahoma’s Leadership and Policy Center for Thriving Schools and Communities, known as THRIVE, has launched the Oklahoma Education Journal under the direction of Editor in Chief Daniel Hamlin, Ph.D., an assistant professor in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies in the Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education.
“We created the Oklahoma Education Journal to fill the need for high-quality information on K-12 education issues in Oklahoma,” Hamlin said. “The journal spans the boundaries of research, policy and practice and is unwavering in its commitment to presenting accurate information to the greatest extent possible. Our editorial team strives for neutrality and balance, and we do not advocate for any political groups, ideologies or programs.”
The journal serves a broad Oklahoma-based readership with features of interest to parents, educators, policymakers and researchers. These include “Relevant Evidence,” which highlights research based in Oklahoma; “Research Review,” which offers neutral syntheses of national research on education issues affecting Oklahoma’s schools; “Leaders in Focus,” which profiles leaders in the state by exploring innovative programs unfolding in Oklahoma schools; and “Point-Counterpoint,” which presents well-reasoned arguments on opposing sides of a policy debate. Journal contributors also produce legal analyses, book reviews, school health and wellness features, as well as updates on state education news, events and resources.
“Our team is working to make the Oklahoma Education Journal the main source of neutral, high-quality information on K-12 education in Oklahoma,” Hamlin said. “My goal is that parents, educators and policymakers will eventually see the journal as their go-to resource.”
