NORMAN, OKLA. – The University of Oklahoma Office of Admissions and Recruitment has announced a partnership with the Oklahoma City Community College Office of Veterans Services to establish the inaugural Veterans Education and Resource Fair, an event making education and other resources more easily accessible for members of the military. The fair is set for 2 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 9, on the community college campus, 7777 S. May Ave., Oklahoma City.
“Veterans and military-connected students are so important to our state and our university,” said Jeff Blahnik, vice president for the Division of Enrollment Management and executive director of the Office of Admissions and Recruitment. “We’re excited to work alongside our community partners to ensure we share the educational opportunities available within Oklahoma.”
The Veterans Education and Resource Fair aims to bring educational partners and organizations together to serve Oklahoma’s military-connected personnel and their families. Veterans, active-duty military, reservists, guardsmen, spouses and their children are invited to visit with more than 20 educational institutions, including two- and four-year colleges and universities, technical schools and multiple organizations dedicated to serving members of the military.
“OU has a great working relationship with our partners at OCCC and knew they would be an excellent choice to spearhead this event with,” said Sarah Shipman, admissions counselor in the OU Office of Admissions and Recruitment. “This unique partnership will help elevate and amplify our efforts to serve this valuable group of students.”
The fair is the final event of Oklahoma Military Week, a week of events hosted by the OU Office of Admissions and Recruitment and designed to meet the needs of military-connected individuals.
“Oklahoma City Community College is proud to partner with the University of Oklahoma to support those who serve and have served in our nation’s military,” said Dr. Mautra Staley Jones, president of OCCC. “Veterans and military-connected students have always been valued members of the OCCC campus community.”
