Digital Discussion Aims to Protect Privacy

With the rise of privacy concerns in an ever-changing digital age, OU Libraries is providing awareness about the privacy of your digital data. The Digital Skills Hub series will teach people new skills and potential pitfalls associated with emerging technologies.

The digital discussion is kicking off the fall 2019 semester with a special discussion led by University of Oklahoma Libraries Interim Dean Carl Grant. The topic is “Knowing Your Worth in the Digital Age: Who Is Cashing in on Your Privacy Data and What You Can Do About It.”

“We want to teach the OU community what they need to know in the digital environment and what they need to protect themselves,” Grant said. “And that’s different. There’s a lot of discussion about privacy, there’s a lot of discussion around are you being monetized in ways that you don’t know and understand? You need to know how to protect yourself.”

Grant said it is important to learn the advantages and disadvantages of technological advances, which is part of the motivation for this Sept. 12 discussion.

This event will take place from noon to 1 p.m. in Bizzell Memorial Library in the HCLC Community Room on LL1. Pizza will be provided to those who RSVP.
