The Institute for Community and Society Transformation (ICAST) is pleased to announce a new seed grant funding opportunity in collaboration with the Data Science Institute for Societal Challenges (DISC). We anticipate awarding six to eight grants ranging from $20,000 to $40,000. One purpose of this opportunity is to foster the creation and/or development of multi-disciplinary research teams in key areas related to community and society transformation. A second purpose is to increase the competitiveness of OU multi-disciplinary research teams to compete for external funding. In line with ICAST’s mission and strategic plans, this opportunity focuses on proposals that align with a wide range of interest areas connected to the ICAST themes below. DISC funding will be available for supplemental support for projects with a data science component.
There are many areas of need with respect to advancing equity and opportunity in society today. ICAST is interested in supporting research and community partnerships to understand equity, opportunity, and disparity in health, education and other areas.
As key actors in Oklahoma’s culture, economy, and governance, Native tribes should also be centrally involved in Native research. Collaborations with Native scholars and Native Nations in ways that enable tribes to shape research, scholarship and creative activity and/or strengthen their sovereignty and cultural continuance.
Technology advancements are essential for meeting many societal challenges. Technology enables unprecedented digital connectedness, information access, telemedicine, advanced automation in diverse occupational settings, and a myriad of conveniences, social connections, and entertainment. There is a continual need to understand opportunities and threats to humans in order to inform technology design, development, and policy.
We encourage submissions from investigators from any of the Norman campus programs, including those located in Tulsa. Please submit a two-page summary of your research idea that includes a purpose, description of research activities, budget and justification for a 20K to 40K project, targeted/possible future funding opportunities, and a description of the team members.
