Excellence in the Arts & Humanities
The OU Arts and Humanities Forum supports and promotes innovative, interdisciplinary humanities research that seeks to understand and transform our world. At the Forum, we’re dedicated to OU’s mission to change lives.
Serving all arts and humanities disciplines, across the University, the Forum has four main missions:
- Build intellectual community in the humanities and arts across the university. We bring to Oklahoma nationally-recognized thought leaders, hold networking and collaboration-building events, and support our scholars through advocacy work at the institutional, local, regional, and national levels.
- Support public-facing research and creative activity in the arts and humanities. We annually fund 5 "Forum Public Fellows" to hold public-facing programming and foster community collaboration, and we host the public at events throughout the year. We also produce OUAH.FM, a collection of audio resources about the arts and humanities at OU available to broad listening publics anywhere, anytime.
- Foster faculty grants development and administer more than $80,000 in internal seed-grant opportunities for OU scholars and creators for innovative projects in the arts and humanities. In collaboration with the Center for Faculty Excellence, we work with OU faculty to craft successful external applications for public and private arts and humanities grants and fellowships.
- Cultivate Digital Humanities scholarship in collaboration with the University Libraries, Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences, and OU's Data Institute for Societal Change (DISC).
At the Forum, we support humanities and arts education as vital pathways for training Oklahoma students in critical and creative thinking, clear and compelling writing, and observant and empathetic engagement. These are the fundamental skills needed by tomorrow’s leaders.
