Weitzenhoffer School of Musical Theatre

OU Musical Theatre

Our goal as the only school of Musical Theatre in the nation, is to provide selected students with the tools needed for success - both onstage and off. Our Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) in Musical Theatre Performance is a comprehensive degree that combines conservatory-style training with a flagship state university experience.

The innovative full-time faculty of nine theatre professionals, do what they teach. Working with a self-imposed cap of 50 exceptional students, our five-to-one student to teacher ratio allows us to offer an unmatched level of personalized training. Our alumni are performing consistently on Broadway, national tours and international productions, regional and stock theatres, and in the Film/TV industry, demonstrating that this is one of America's premiere programs.

Admission to the University of Oklahoma is required as well as a separate audition for admission into the Weitzenhoffer School of Musical Theatre. We recruit incredibly talented theatre artists from high schools across the nation for each freshman class and our faculty pride themselves on discerning the potential for success in a variety of ways. We are committed to the core principles of inclusion, equity, and anti-racism and promote a culture of belonging by celebrating diversity in all its forms.

Land Acknowledgement

Long before the University of Oklahoma was established, the land on which the University now resides was the traditional home of the “Hasinais” Caddo Nation and “Kirikirʔi:s” Wichita & Affiliated Tribes.

We acknowledge this territory once also served as a hunting ground, trade exchange point, and migration route for the Apache, Comanche, Kiowa and Osage nations.

Today, 39 tribal nations dwell in the state of Oklahoma as a result of settler and colonial policies that were designed to assimilate Native people.

The University of Oklahoma recognizes the historical connection our university has with its indigenous community. We acknowledge, honor and respect the diverse Indigenous peoples connected to this land. We fully recognize, support and advocate for the sovereign rights of all of Oklahoma’s 39 tribal nations. This acknowledgement is aligned with our university’s core value of creating a diverse and inclusive community. It is an institutional responsibility to recognize and acknowledge the people, culture and history that make up our entire OU Community.
