Professor Courtney Vaughn passed away on May 7, 2022. Vaughn joined the College of Education and women’s studies department at OU in 1983 and in 1991 became the first woman promoted to full professor in the educational leadership and policy studies department. She was named the Brian E. and Sandra O’Brian Presidential Professor in 2008. Upon retirement in 2015 as professor emeritus, she had published four books, 46 peer-reviewed articles and seven book chapters.
Up until her death, Vaughn was still active in the college, teaching classes in the educational administration, curriculum and supervision program.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Dr. Courtney Vaughn Memorial Fund. This fund will support the creation of an endowed scholarship in Vaughn’s name at the University of Oklahoma. home.oufoundation.org/vaughn
