Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) at OU is a dynamic program that maintains great balance between research and teaching. Our faculty have been consistently recognized as outstanding teachers and have received many awards for excellence in teaching. Our faculty have received several grants from external agencies including the National Science Foundation, the Federal Aviation Administration, the Department of Defense, the Department of Transportation, NIST, and NASA. Faculty publications appear in leading journals in the areas of Operations Research, Risk and Reliability, Human Factors, Design and Manufacturing. The School of ISE provides our students with cutting edge laboratories and other resources to lead them to successful professional careers. Many of our faculty have been elevated to Fellow status in multiple engineering societies such as IISE, ASME, and SME.
Undergraduate students in the school are provided a balanced curriculum that provides great breadth of academic coursework, with the opportunity to gain depth of knowledge in chosen areas through electives. Many courses provide hands-on learning experiences, and our curriculum culminates with a Capstone course that puts teams of students to work for an industry sponsor. In addition to the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering, we have established partnerships with other schools to provide enhanced undergraduate curricula to suit the diverse interests of our student body (see the undergraduate studies page for more details). Our undergraduate ISE curriculum stands apart from many others in that it offers students both a breadth and depth of knowledge that allows our graduates to work in virtually any industry. Our recent graduates have found employment in a diverse range of companies including Amazon, Boeing, Deloitte, Mitre, General Electric Oil & Gas, Disney, Sabre, Integris Hospitals, Tinker Air Force Base and Universal.
Our graduate program is once again designed to focus on a diverse and cross-cutting set of areas. We offer three different tracks for the Master of Science in IE. The non-thesis track is designed for students who are interested in applying ISE principles in engineering integration and systems thinking to technical enterprises. The thesis track is a research – based program that provides the student with a greater depth of knowledge in their research area and prepares them to continue on to a Ph.D. or to enter the industrial workforce. We also offer a specialized online program geared towards Systems Engineering. Our MS students have found excellent placement in a diverse set of industry. Our PhD graduates work in crosscutting application areas of Cyber Physical Social Systems, Health and Medical Systems, and Aerospace and Defense Systems, or in the methodological domains in Systems Engineering and Analytics. Our most recent Ph.D. graduates have found employment at prestigious academic programs as Iowa State University, Northwestern University, Mississippi State University, and Vanderbilt University.
