Our Mission

The mission of the School of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering (AME) is to provide the best possible educational experience for our students through excellence in teaching, research and creative activity, and service to society, nationally and internationally.

Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://www.abet.org, under the General Criteria and the Aerospace and Similarly Named Program Criteria.

Mechanical

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://www.abet.org, under the General Criteria and the Mechanical and Similarly Named Engineering Programs Program Criteria.

Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering Program Educational Objectives

Program Educational Objectives are broad statements that describe what graduates are expected to attain within a few years after graduation. Program educatinal objectives are based on the needs of the program's constituencies.

Our graduates will have successful professional careers in industry, government, academia or non-profit organizations.
Our graduates will be successful in solving the engineering problems associated with the lifecycle of complex systems.
Our graduates will continue to learn and advance their careers through activities such as participation in professional organizations, attainment of professional certification and post-graduate study.

Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering Student Outcomes

Student Outcomes are statements that describe what students are expected to know and be able to do by the time of graduation. These relate to the knowledge, skills, and behaviors that students acquire as they progress through the program.

An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics
An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors
An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences
An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts
An ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives
An ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions
An ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies
For Aerospace Enginering: Knowledge of the major aeronautical topics and some astronautical topics
For Mechanical Enginering: Knowledge of thermal and mechanical systems
