The Engineering Pathways Mentors establish connections leading to a strong sense of community within the Gallogly College of Engineering through student-to-student interaction. This community is built through service, dedication, respect, and honesty toward others, engineering as a profession, the Gallogly College of Engineering, and the University of Oklahoma.
Entering an engineering curriculum is an opportunity for learning and growth for all students; these opportunities can range from the academic to the social, even to navigating college life in general. EP Mentors provide first-year engineering students with the opportunity to engage with a network of trained peer mentors. Mentors partner with new engineering students, called protégés, to share the knowledge and skills they have gained through their college experience, create connections with student organizations and the broader engineering community, and introduce valuable campus and community resources.
Mentors are current OU Engineering students in their sophomore, junior, or senior year of their degree program. Mentors are selected due to their positive, enthusiastic, and dedicated approach to being a role model for incoming OU Engineering students.
Every first-year Engineering student has the opportunity to engage with the EP Mentoring Network as a protégé. Engagement with events is part of each new student’s experience in the required first-semester engineering course ENGR 1413: Pathways to Engineering Thinking or ENGR 1421: Engineering Design in Action. Protégés will be mentored by experienced students to learn about being an engineering student at OU.
