Orientation and Welcome Message Welcome..., I'm Dennis Fehler (pronounced Faylor) [resume]. I'm looking forward to meeting you. Beginning December 14th, I'll be your instructor for 24 days of Internet instruction. [December 14th, 1998 to January 9th, 1999]If you are registered for this course..., (as soon as you are able) send me e-mail. I am the "last to know" who signs up for WebStudy, so let me hear from you "before" December 14th (where possible). We can get acquainted before we meet. (One e-mail is all I need) The First WebStudy Intersession Class Meeting is: Monday, December 14th, 1998, 208 Carnagie, Parrington Oval at 10:00am. I have created a special page with all the details if you need them. This is the same sheet given to you by the Intersession office when your Registered. Our meeting (the first day of class) is to assure administrative coordination and to get acquainted. We just want to make certain you are optimally connected to the Internet. I want to introduce myself, and some of the people helping this year with WebStudy. It won't take long, and you will leave knowing everything about what we are doing (and how we are going to do it!) When you "get home" we will begin the course. It should be fun, and you will learn practical things. (I promise!) This offering of WebStudy is about learning the useful aspects of the Internet, by using the Internet. WebStudy is especially created for individuals with both beginning to advanced technical (computer) skills. There will be plenty of help is you need it, and in addition (this Intersession) I will use a book in conjunction with the existing on-line material). I realize it a genuine leap of faith to believe one can actually learn over the Internet. It is important for you to believe on-line learning is possible, (and actually easy), so toward that end, I mention I have been teaching since 1977, and teaching over the Internet since 1996. I have an understanding of the important components of the Internet, (and) I can transfer that knowledge to you in a relatively brief period of time. You will hear more about this. Remember..., others (before you) have successfully learned using my/these methods. I have created some on-line lessons that teach you the important aspects of the Internet. The lessons show you "what to do" by providing examples of what is to be learned (on the Internet), and you be able to find "detailed" information in a very good reference textbook. You will like this book! It has detailed pictures, and it is very well indexed so you can actually find what you are looking for (when you need it). Note: If your using a Mac, get the Mac version of is book. I'll show you how to find information on the Internet (and what you can do with it). I'll show you how to create not only your own web page, but how to create useful web pages that inform and educate. We will communicate using e-mail. If you don't understand something..., just e-mail me, and I'll help. If you need help getting a e-mail account at OU..., try the helpdesk You may obtain a full range of technical support by telephone at (405) 325-4636 (325-INFO); and/or by e-mail to info@ou.edu. For a few students..., there is some apprehension regarding "new technology". In this instance, the new (Internet) Technology is very easy to learn. Think of it this way..., if you found your way to this location..., you can easily learn and benefit from WebStudy. My partners, Morgan, Tammy, and Mike are there in Oklahoma to help you in case you initially need help, (or worst case) the technology fails completely. Their job is to help..., if there is no other avenue. For the purposes of this WebStudy we will handle all matters over the Internet using e-mail. The best part of WebStudy is (after the first day) you can dress for class..., "any way you want."
