The Master of Arts in International Relations program is a non-thesis, 33-hour degree program. Students can choose from courses in a variety of disciplines, including: Economics, Geography, History, Political Science, and International and Area Studies.
The MAIR program offers courses in multiple formats: live, online and hybrid courses. While the variety of course formats provides flexibility to students, MAIR degree seeking students will be required to complete at least two in-person courses. We strongly encourage students to complete this requirement early, particularly if they know they will be deployed or moving during the course of their degree.
The MAIR program provides a broad international relations education that draws on the expertise of a large group of professors. Students benefit most from the program by seeking out instruction from a variety of professors and exposure to diverse ideas and topics. To ensure this takes place, students may not complete and may not include on their Program of Study more than 3 courses taught by any single professor.

Elective courses represent the breadth and depth of the core and substantive areas. Depth of understanding is increased by taking electives in a single area while breadth of understanding is increased by taking electives across several degree areas.

Dual degree programs allow students to pursue two degrees simultaneously in two fields of study. To obtain a dual degree, a student must satisfy the admission, course, and examination requirements of both programs.
Requirements:
Students pursuing a dual degree must submit a Program of Study form for each program to the Graduate College at the same time. Both forms must be approved by the Graduate College before the student will be authorized to begin their comprehensive exams.
Dual MAIR/HR:
An I is a neutral mark and means that a course is incomplete. An I is not an alternative to a grade of F. To receive an I mark, a student should have satisfactorily completed a substantial portion (70%) of the required coursework for the semester.
Upon the assignment of an I mark, the instructor must complete an Incomplete Contract Form. The instructor should indicate the following to the student and to the Office of Academic Records:
The time limit allotted for course completion may not exceed one calendar year. If by the end of the time limit no change in grade has been assigned, the mark of I will be changed to the pre-determined permanent grade (as noted by professor in #4 above). If an Incomplete Contract Form has not been submitted, the I mark will become an F.

The MAIR degree requires the completion of 33 graduate-credit hours and a non-thesis comprehensive examination. To qualify for a graduate degree, students must achieve an overall grade point average of 3.0 or higher in all graduate coursework.
A MAIR degree-seeking student must complete all degree requirements within five years of the first enrollment in any graduate-level OU course to be applied to the master’s degree.
