Congratulations to OU Sociology PhD student Oyindamola (Oyin) Okuwa who was the First Runner-up and won the People's Choice Award for Outstanding Presentation in the campus wide Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competion. The 3MT is a graduate student competition testing participants capacity to explain their research in three minutes using language appropriate for a non specialized audience. Oyin presented her research titled "Women’s Decision-Making Power and Contraceptive Use in Nigeria" and came in second out of 41 students competing this year. She also won outright the People's Choice Award for Outstanding Presentation which speaks to Oyin's commitment of communicate to both academic and non-academic audeinces. Dr. Loretta Bass mentored Oyin on her project. Sociology was well represented at the 3MT competition this year winning two of the top three spots, as MA student Sally Wiser came in third out of 41 with her project "Illicit Masculinities". Oyin won $1500 for coming in runner up and $1000 for the peoples choice award.
