Dr. Worthen receives Provost's Community Engagement Award for Outstanding Scholarship

Congratulations to Dr. Meredith Worthen who recently received The Provost's Community Engagement Award for Outstanding Scholarship, Research, and Creative Activity (2021). This award recognizes faculty members for engaged scholarship, research, and creative activity that is conducted in a mutually beneficial community-university partnership addressing critical community needs. In 2011, Dr. Worthen created a non-profit: The Welcoming Project, which provides free “All Are Welcome” rainbow signs to locations around the world who want to show their support for LGBTQ people. In 2018, Dr. Worthen created #MeTooMeredith, a social media platform supporting survivors of sexual violence. Her community engaged activism is complemented by her 50+ academic publications in these areas of research, including her most recent book:
Queers, Bis, and Straight Lies: An Intersectional Examination of LGBTQ Stigma.

Please join the Department in celebrating Dr. Worthen’s tireless efforts to address these important issues!
