The department of sociology is proud to introduce the newest member of our faculty, Assistant Professor Ian Carrillo! Professor Carrillo will join us in Spring 2021 after he completes his National Science Foundation: Social and Behavioral Sciences Postdoctoral Research at the University of California Santa Barbara and Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro. Professor Carrillo’s research focuses on how race and racism shape environmental practices and policies in multi-racial societies, such as Brazil and the U.S. During his time as a post-doctoral fellow, Professor Carrillo has been working on a manuscript Engines of Inequality: Regulating Race, Labor, and Environment in Brazil. His research has also been published in several prominent outlets including Sociology of Race and Ethnicity, Current Sociology, Environmental Sociology, to name a few of his more recent placements. As a native of southwest Missouri, Dr. Carrillo is excited to launch his research and teaching programs closer to home and is excited to join the OU Sociology family. Please join us in welcoming Dr. Ian Carrillo to OU’s Department of Sociology. We are so happy to have him as part of our intellectual community!
