Dr. Yong-Mi Kim is an Information Scientist specializing in health informatics, health disparity, and knowledge management and discovery using machine learning, data mining, and other advanced statistical methods such as structural equation modeling. She has published many articles in prestigious journals including the Journal of the Association for Information Science and Technology, Journal of Information Science, Health Informatics Journal among many other journals. She has published many articles on medical comorbidities from opioids and cocaine misuse and compared different comorbidities across subgroups.
While she was working on those projects, she developed innovative big data management strategies to effectively retrieve data from massive electronic health records. Her current research includes diabetes and mental health disparities among immigrants and refugee populations. Based on those big data analytics skills for her research, she developed a Graduate Certificate in Data Analytics for Information Professionals and developed Introduction to Data Analytics and Advanced Data Analytics to support the certificate program.
