Profile:
Prior to becoming a member of this distinguished university, Mr. Pío Gasca graduated in 2010 with a triple major from the University of Missouri-Kansas City: the first one in English with emphasis in creative writing, the second one in American History, and the third one in Spanish Literature. In 2016, he received his M.A. in Spanish Literature and Culture from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. In 2017, he also received his M.Ed. in Secondary Education from Rockhurst University in Kansas City, MO. The same year he became a certified teacher in Spanish and English at the secondary level.
Pío A. Gasca joined The University of Oklahoma as a PhD student in 2018. He is a Spanish GTA in the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics. As a Spanish GTA, he teaches the 1000-level and 2000-level Spanish courses (1115, 1225, and 2113), and serves as a Spanish tutor in OU Language Lab.
Before joining OU, Mr. Gasca was a Spanish instructor in the 1000-level and 2000-level Spanish courses at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, in Kansas City, MO.
Mr. Gasca’s research interests include Contemporary Mexican literature and Contemporary Latin American literature from the 20th and 21st centuries. He is particularly interested in the study of social justice issues in the Mexican novel, and the performance of the Mexican identity in relation to racism and gender in contemporary Mexican novels, short stories, movies, theater, and poetry from the 20th and 21st centuries.
