Kaufman Hall 232
Academic Biography:
I hold a dual M.A. degree, with one specializing in Languages, Literatures, and Cultures, and the other in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), which I earned from Southern Illinois University in 2020. In the fall semester of 2023, I embarked on a new chapter by joining the Spanish section at OU.
My professional journey began in my native Honduras, where I devoted a total of six years to Universidad Pedagógica Nacional Francisco Morazán. During my time there, I had the privilege of teaching English as a foreign language, facilitating pedagogical courses, and introducing students to the world of literature and linguistics.
Informed by my own experiences as a language learner, my educational philosophy centers on the belief that the most effective path to language acquisition involves forging deep connections between the learner and the culture of the target language. Language and culture are inseparable, each enhancing the other. I am a strong advocate for students taking enjoyment from their learning experiences while using the target language to engage in meaningful and memorable activities. My conviction is that an open-minded embrace of other cultures and languages broadens one's perspectives. Learning a language offers the opportunity to craft a new version of oneself, facilitating interactions with diverse individuals and places, and fostering an appreciation for literature, music, movies, and arts from across the globe.
My professional interests include curriculum design, bilingual education, and the psychology of learning.
