"Howdy 🤠!

"My name is Marcus Ake and I am a Meteorology/Mathematics/German major and Physical Geography/Communication minor from little ole Belton, Texas! I am an Austrian-American who loves chasing storms and playing soccer, though I have yet to do both at the same time! I am involved with Big Event Exec, OU SCAN, OU Cousins, German Club, Botany Club, and research in CIWRO!

"During my free time, whenever I manage to find any, I love playing video games and learning about languages. Hopefully, after my graduation in spring of 2023, I plan to attend graduate school abroad in a German speaking country where I can do research into inclement weather in Europe!"

"I’m a sophomore majoring in mathematics and engineering physics. My first encounter with math was timed multiplication sheets in elementary school. My friends and I would get super competitive over who could finish first and the teacher would encourage us by handing small prizes to the winner. This competitive spirit gave way to genuine curiosity and has pushed me to continue studying math in college and, hopefully, well beyond.

"My favorite class so far has been Abstract Algebra because of how it expands and adds complexity to well-known concepts in algebra. It’s the same algebra but seen through a new perspective. I hope to take many more interesting courses like this one during my time here at OU."

"Ever since I was a child, I have enjoyed math and excelled at it. It wasn't until taking AP calculus in high school that I realized I wanted to pursue further education in the field of mathematics. Throughout my journey here at OU the challenging math courses I've taken have only strengthened my love and interest in math. I look forward to continuing my education in this field and working towards becoming an actuary."

"I am studying a double-major in mathematics and astrophysics, and it has been very helpful in my physics courses to have a firm mathematical basis behind some of the topics covered in physics. I really enjoyed the "Physical Mathematics 1" course, because it helped to explain the mathematics behind the differential equations I have seen in my Physical Mechanics course.

"As I move forward in my career, having a math major will continue to be very useful as an aid in my astrophysics career, as well as being able to explain more advanced topics in mathematics which I have only worked with in very limited ways thus far, like graph theory."

"I am currently pursuing degrees in mathematics and ballet performance. Upon graduating from OU, I intend on fulfilling one of my dreams of dancing professionally, however, I understand that injuries are prevalent within the art form and most dancers retire between the ages of 30 and 40.

"After my dancing career ends, I plan on focusing on one of my other passions, math, by returning to school to acquire a master’s degree. Along with mathematics, I am quite interested in health; therefore, I believe epidemiology would be a fitting field that marries both topics. With a graduate degree, I hope to work at a research center or in a lab setting and make an impact by identifying patterns of disease and with the recent events involving the Coronavirus, I feel confident that pursuing this profession will allow me to truly make a difference."

"I'm double majoring in Math and Meteorology. I’ve always loved math; I’ve competed in math competitions since middle school, and I’ve enjoyed all the math courses I’ve taken. So far, my favorite courses have been Physical Math and Discrete Math, but I’m looking forward to taking more and seeing if that changes.

"I haven’t done any math research yet, but I was able to get a research position analyzing rainfall in Hurricane Sally with Dr. Jeffrey Basara. Being a freshman, I still have plenty of time to get involved in math research, and I’m looking forward to where my degrees take me."
