Ryan Gueli
Harold Huneke Endowed Scholarship
This fund was established in 1986. It is in honor of Dr. Harold Huneke, David Ross Boyd professor of Mathematics, an outstanding educator who received several teaching awards during his tenure at OU. It is also in memory of Dr. Huneke’s wife, Opal Harral-Huneke. Recipients are graduate students in Mathematics who are in good academic standing, and the award is based on their performance as graduate student assistants.
"My name is Ryan Gueli and I am a second year grad student here at OU. My advisor is Jing Tao and I currently am studying Geometric Group theory.
"I’m from Buffalo, NY, and enjoy taking my dog for walks and watching sports with my fiancé and two cats. I hope to one day get a tenure track position at a major university and start a program to help underrepresented students in STEM fields while also advancing my research in GGT."

"I'm originally from Illinois and moved to South Carolina to get a BS and MS in math from the College of Charleston. I realized that my dream was to stay in school until I was 30, so I came to OU to pursue a PhD.
"Things are going well, and I'm right on track to achieve my goal. In my spare time, I enjoy rock climbing and running. Since I'm not strong enough or fast enough to get paid to do these things, I'd really like to keep doing math for a living."
