George McNaught Ewing Scholarship
This fund was established in 1991 in memory of Dr. George McNaught Ewing, George Lynn Cross Research Professor Emeritus of Mathematics. Dr. Ewing was a distinguished scholar and teacher in the field of applied analysis whose book on the Calculus of Variations became a standard reference in this field. The scholarship can be renewed annually if the student maintains a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and continues as a mathematics major.
"I wanted to be a math major because I have always enjoyed math. I usually did quite well at math in school and it was one of my favorite classes.
"I am currently a double major - with art being the second major - and I hope that the math can help me in coding and be a fun activity!"

"One of the best experiences I have had as a math major at OU was getting to study abroad and take a numerics course in Germany. Math truly is a universal language.
"I am pursuing a masters in biostatistics, and hope to employ statistical methods to benefit public health."
Brody Schomaker
"My desire to become a mathematics major was first formed from my love for numbers and patterns when I was young. I always enjoyed working with statistics, and when I became older, I liked solving different problems and puzzles that involved mathematics, like sudoku, for example. This love of problem solving is what convinced me to take on mathematics as my major.
"One of the greatest aspects of being a math major would be the sense of comaraderie that I get being around and working with my fellow classmates to learn new things and solve various problems. In addition, the staff and professors at the mathematics department are always helpful and do a great job at presenting information in an interesting way that keeps me wanting to learn more.
"Lastly, after I get my degree, I plan on using it to try to help solve problems from around the world in order to help as many people as possible. I am honored to be a part of the mathematics department and look forward to my next few years here!"
