The WGS Center for Social Justice is proud to announce the recipients of our 2024 Social Justice Awards. Each award is given in recognition of exceptional dedication to fostering diversity, education, and actionable commitment to social justice within our institution and the broader community. The recipients were all honored at our recent departmental End of Year Ceremony.
Award Recipients:
Student Social Justice Award: Colin T. McPherson. In recognition of outstanding contributions to social justice initiatives by a student.
Professional Staff Social Justice Award: Adisha Waghmarae (DFCAS and HR). Awarded to a professional staff member who exemplifies dedication to social justice in their professional conduct and initiatives.
Faculty Research Commitment to Social Justice Awards: Dr. LaShawn Faith Washington (Educational Psychology) and Dr. Erin Maher (Sociology). Honoring a faculty member whose research significantly advances the understanding and practice of social justice.
Community Engagement Commitment to Social Justice Award: Vanessa Morrison (Gibbs College of Architecture). Celebrating a community member's exceptional commitment to promoting social justice through active engagement and outreach.

The WGS Center for Social Justice annually recognizes individuals across four categories: Student Social Justice Award, Professional Staff Social Justice Award, Faculty Research Commitment to Social Justice Award, and Community Engagement Commitment to Social Justice Award. These awards celebrate the efforts of those who strive to make a significant impact in fostering diversity, competency, and activism in social justice.
