One of the original departments at the University of Oklahoma, the Department of Classics and Letters offers the clearest path to a traditional degree in the Liberal Arts. We offer two undergraduate degree programs in Classics or Letters.
Both of our degree programs prepare students to follow a variety of paths after graduation, with many of our students going on to law school or medical school. Others go to graduate school in disciplines such as Classics, History, Philosophy, Literature, and Economics.
We surveyed alumni to ask them about their careers post-graduation. View the alumni survey results.
Students pursuing Classics study the languages, literatures, culture, and history of ancient Greece and Rome. We currently offer undergraduate majors in Classical Studies, Classical Languages, and Latin. Students also have the option to minor in Classical Culture, Classical Archaeology, Greek, or Latin.
Students in Letters pursue an interdisciplinary curriculum in literature, history, and philosophy, as well as an ancient and a modern language. They can also choose to concentrate their major in Constitutional Studies through the Institute for the American Constitutional Heritage or minor in Constitutional Studies.
