Interested in Traveling to SACNAS National Conference with GEN?
Have you always wanted to attend a national conference but never really knew how to make that happen?
Are you interested in learning more about research and connecting with other Indigenous people working in your field of interest?
Here is your chance! GEN is taking two students to SACNAS this fall. This travel scholarship will provide you with training and assistance before, during, and after the conference to ensure that you get the most out of the experience.
Eligibility Requirements
- Currently enrolled as undergraduate student at the University of Oklahoma
- Must be in good standing with the university’s academic and conduct requirements
- Must attend all pre and post conference activities.

Travel Scholarship Description
We are excited to announce that the Genomics and Ethics Program for Native Students (GEN) is providing up to two (2) travel scholarships for OU students to attend the NDiSTEM 2024 conference. This conference is hosted by Society for Advancing Chicanos/Hispanics & Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) in Phoenix, AZ from October 31 - November 2, 2024.
The purpose of the travel scholarship is to give OU students the opportunity to attend the SACNAS conference as part of a guided experience with GEN staff and Indigenous mentors. Students selected for this scholarship will be required to attend up to three pre-conference activities (an orientation and 2 trainings) that will prepare you to critically engage the conference and complete a post-conference project.
The scholarship covers all expenses related to Airfare, Lodging, Conference Registration (includes lunch), and evening meals with the group. Breakfast is provided at the hotel or is on your own.
