Are you a student interested in learning about ethical issues related to genetic research in American Indian and Alaska Native communities?

Are you an American Indian or Alaska Native student interested in health and science, community engagement, tribal policy, or how to do research?

Do you have an interest in meeting other students and researchers doing work related to genetic research in tribal communities?

Eligibility Requirements

  1. enrolled as undergraduate or graduate students at the University of Oklahoma
  2. in good standing with the university’s academic and conduct requirements
  3. participating in a defined degree plan at the time of application*

*This is a student training program. Therefore, no prior experience or studies in genetics or ethics required.

Description

The Genomics and Ethics Program for Native Students (GEN) promotes a supportive learning environment and mentorship for students interested in pursuing questions related to genomics, ethics and society. Students participating in the GEN program will:

 

  • Get hands-on training and research experiences
  • Travel
  • Connect with students, researchers, tribal communities and Native-serving organizations across the country
  • Receive personalized mentorship and professional development
