Coaching to Complete
The Story Behind Our Model
The University of Oklahoma is dedicated to creating impactful strategies that ensure our students receive exceptional personalized support for academic success. This commitment to student success has led to the development of our Academic Life Coaching program (ALC). The ALC program is made up of our Academic Advisors, Faculty, and Staff throughout the OU Norman Campus. These individuals have participated in an intensive Academic Life Coach training program, which has been accredited by the International Coaching Federation.
Over the past several years, members from our coaching community worked together to identify specific areas of life that our students struggle with daily. Through these discussions, we cultivated a list of eight “persistence themes” that impede our students journey to degree completion. After we identified these top student stressors, we created corresponding learning outcomes and powerful questions for each of these critical themes. Together, we were able to develop a holistic “Coaching to Complete” model. This model has become an instrumental tool in helping our students identify challenges and carry out personal action plans to overcome obstacles.
We are pleased to announce that when we created the “Coaching to Complete Academic Life Coaching Model,” we were committed to producing and opensource document to share with other higher learning institutions world-wide. We hope that you will find this tool helpful in developing important relationships with your students and initiate personalized support for student success!
