OAE offers a variety of training opportunities for campus community members to learn more about gender-based violence prevention, substance misuse prevention, sexual health education, and other general health topics that are common among college students. We offer both peer-lead and professional workshops, ranging from 30 minutes to 3 hours in duration. Gender-Based Violence Prevention and Support

Designed to increase understanding of and prevent gender-based violence (including sexual and dating violence, stalking, and harassment) on campus and beyond.

The Consent Bar is a pop-up mocktail bar serving non-alcoholic drinks such as the Boundaries Bubbly, Consensual Cosmo, and Let’s Talk About Sex on the Beach. At The Consent Bar, our “bartenders” will take patrons through the experience of giving and receiving consent while their drinks are made. Student organizations may request The Consent Bar at their events or for tabling for a small fee with a 2-hour minimum, which helps cover the cost of materials and labor. 

Duration: 1-2 Hours

This is a mandatory workshop for first-year students enrolled at the University of Oklahoma to discuss what consent is, and what it is not. This training also provides tools for being active bystanders to help prevent gender-based violence. We also provide information about OU Advocates, how to report to Title IX and other offices, and other optional resources. (Provided annually during Camp Crimson.)

Duration: 1 Hour

Students who do not complete the mandatory training during Camp Crimson will need to complete the online training through Title IX. Email questions about the online Sexual Assault Prevention training at ieo@ou.edu.

This training is an expansion of the original Consent Conversation content. Participants will have the opportunity to further develop their understanding and application of consent in their lives through a more in-depth examination of the roots of sexual violence.

Duration: 1 Hour

Facilitators: Peer Educators

This training includes information about the do’s and don’ts of healthy relationships. It includes both media and real-life examples of healthy and unhealthy behaviors in interpersonal relationships, particularly romantic relationships.

Duration: 1 Hour

Participants will examine their own relationship non-negotiables and how their personal preferences may differ from others. This is a highly interactive workshop and requires a space where participants can move around the room freely.

Duration: 40 Minutes

Facilitators: OAE Staff

This is a brief overview of what gender-based violence is, risk factors, and how to help someone who discloses harm. This presentation is best formatted for student organizations, chapter meetings, resource groups, etc.

Duration: 20-30 Minutes

This training builds upon previous knowledge from Supporting Survivors and asks participants to further apply what they learned. More in-depth information is given on the Red Zone, party culture, student leadership in supporting and/or reporting, and self-care.

Duration: 45 Minutes

Facilitators: OAE Staff

This training provides extensive information on gender-based violence, OU Advocates and other resources, and how to help someone who discloses harm. Participants will examine rape culture, victim advocacy, and mandatory reporting.

Duration: 2 Hours

Substance Misuse Prevention

Designed to increase understanding of and prevent substance misuse (including binge drinking, prescription misuse, illicit drug use, overdose, etc.) and the recovery process on campus and beyond.

Other substance misuse prevention training courses and workshops are in the works and will be available soon.

AOD training is an educational overview of alcohol and other drug misuse among college students. It includes topics on protective and risk factors, campus and local policies, and drunk and/or influenced driving safety. 

All entering and first-year students (including transfer students), twenty (20) years of age and younger, are required to complete the Alcohol and Other Drugs Education training by the fourth week of the semester. Holds on enrollment will be placed for students not in compliance. (Provided annually during Camp Crimson.)

Sexual Health Education

Designed to empower students through knowledge and skills that help them to protect their health, make informed choices, and understand community impacts of sexual health.

Other sexual health training courses and workshops are in the works and will be available soon.

Participants will learn about sexual health among college students as it relates to Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) prevention, contraceptive options and usage, and the resources for both that are available on campus.

General Health and Wellness Education

Designed to help students navigate common issues around various wellness topics including sleep habits, stress management, and general wellness as a student. Education training and workshops under this category are currently being developed and will be available to request soon.

Participants will learn about the importance of good sleep hygiene for college students, the consequences of unhealthy sleep patterns, different obstacles to getting adequate sleep, and how to develop a healthier routine regarding sleeping habits and behaviors.

Duration: 1 hour

Participants will learn about the importance of stress management for college students, the differences between healthy and unhealthy kinds of stress, different kinds of stressors and how to manage them, and how to establish healthier practices in dealing with stress.

Additional Training and Education Opportunities

Designed as a first-step training to help individuals learn more about marginalized communities and ways to support them. We focus on understanding key elements of identity development within different communities. Participants will reflect on the understandings of self and others, how to create positive community impact, and how to create change through allyship.

We offer different styles of this presentation for various audiences, including: Faculty, Greek Life, incoming K-12 professionals, and incoming medical professionals.

Duration: 3 Hours

This is the next-step training with Aspiring Ally that paves a way for individuals to continue their path of allyship. Building upon the previous knowledge base, participants will learn more about gender identity development. Utilizing empathy-based learning activities/opportunities, participants will gain the confidence and skills needed to step in circumstance of discrimination. As well as how to provide affirming, culturally competent services to people who are transgender and gender non-conforming.

Duration: 3 Hours (90 minute option available)

Participants will be able to recognize that using inclusive language is beneficial to themselves and their communities. Skill-building will include identifying commonly used words/phrases that are non-inclusive and articulating why they are problematic. By the end, participants will be equipped with the tools to be able to intervene in circumstances of exclusion.
