At the University of Oklahoma, students enjoy the advantages of a flagship, public research institution while also being part of a group that is small enough to foster a deep connection to the OU family. OU is a pacesetter for public higher education, offering 170+ majors and earning the Carnegie Institution’s Very High Research Activity classification.

Students can use their free time to join one of 500+ student organizations or cheer on OU’s athletics teams. With students attending OU from all across the nation and 136 countries, students have a chance to learn from peers from all walks of life. OU fraternity and sorority community has 55 active chapters and is filled with students, philanthropists, mentors, peer educators, engaged citizens, and much more. Over 30% of OU students are part of Greek Life.

As the programming branch for OU's Student Government Association, the Campus Activities Council (CAC) is responsible for programming campus-wide events that serve all students to promote community, leadership, and leaving a legacy.

Norman is a vibrant college town, and just 30 minutes north is Oklahoma City, providing an array of activities from professional and spectator sports to local restaurants for all Sooners to enjoy!

Every Field

Whether you're a lifelong fan or new to the OU Family, you'll get swept up in the excitment of OU athletics and game day. OU owns one of the greatest winning traditions in intercollegiate athletics, and these events are an opportunity to connect with your classmates and community while making memories that will last a lifetime. OU has champions in a variety of sports, and events for each sport are free for students apart from football and men’s basketball. You may know about our seven football national championships and seven Heisman Trophy winners, but did you know that our softball team has won three straight NCAA titles and our women’s gymnastics team has claimed the last two? Across all sports, OU boasts more than 40 national championships.

Resources

OU provides residents with a welcoming and safe environment through our health and safety efforts. From detailed plans that explain exactly what to do in the event of a weather emergency, to transportation services available throughout the academic year, OU students are our top priority. 

Stay fit at Sarkeys Fitness Center! Conveniently located near the residence halls, this recreation area is great for exercise, weight lifting, racket sports, basketball, volleyball, rock climbing, and fitness classes such as yoga, kickboxing, and more.

OU offers a variety of part-time, flexible, and convenient work opportunities to fit students' schedules. OU Human Resources can also help connect students to on and off-campus employment opportunities.
