Appeal Admission Decision

Admission to the University of Oklahoma is a competitive process. As a selective university, applications to OU are evaluated based on an in-depth holistic review process. Throughout this process, multiple people carefully review your academic coursework, grades, rigor, test scores, activities, letters of recommendation, and essay. Due to the competitive nature of the process, each year a number of students are offered space on our waitlist or denied admission.

The University of Oklahoma does allow students to appeal their decision. However, for an appeal to have merit, it must include new academic or personal information that was not in the application.

Valid Basis for Appeal for Students

Academic Improvements	Updated transcript with grades from courses completed since you received your initial decision
Updated Test Scores	New ACT or SAT scores
Medical Circumstances	Note from health care provider documenting illness that was not disclosed on your original application
Other Personal or Extenuating Circumstances	Documentation to explain the circumstances

Information Not Considered

Appeals written by someone other than the applicant
Participation in additional activities
Recently acquired awards

Steps to Appeal

Contact your admissions counselor through phone (405-325-2151) or email (admissions@ou.edu) to discuss if an appeal makes sense for you. After that conversation, the admissions counselor may add the form to submit an appeal to your application account.
Complete and submit the appeal form. Appeals submitted by anyone other than the student will not be considered.
Once you submit your appeal with all required documentation, it will be reviewed by the admissions committee. The committee will then notify you of your admission decision.

Timeline of Appeals

The admissions committee typically does not consider appeals until after March 15 for summer/fall entry freshmen. Transfer students are considered on a rolling basis. Freshman spring admission decisions are not appealable.
