Program Description
Voice students at the OU School of Music develop their powers of personal vocal expression through performance and pedagogical discipline. The Voice faculty include highly acclaimed artists and scholars in the fields of performance and education. Working with this exceptional faculty, students participate in recitals, concerts, opera theater, master classes, private coaching sessions and seminars designed to provide them with a competitive edge in the pursuit of careers in professional music, teaching or continued higher education.
The OU Opera Theatre offers Voice students outstanding training for careers in opera performance and education. In addition to individual vocal study and coaching, graduate and undergraduate classes in movement, acting, opera history and technical production help prepare Voice students for exciting and rewarding careers in opera. Graduates of the programs have found professional success around the world performing with some of the most prestigious opera programs and teaching in top academic institutions.
In addition to general university admission requirements, Voice students must pass a vocal audition before enrolling in the School of Music. Additional admission information is available at the School of Music Web site.
Degree Options
A Voice student graduates with a Bachelor of Music Education or Bachelor of Music in Voice degree. Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees are also available.
Interests & Skills
Voice students typically have interests in music performance, theory and technique. High school preparation should include training in vocal technique, sightreading and choral performance experience.

Voice students find performance opportunities with the School of Music's numerous vocal ensembles, including the acclaimed University Chorale, which is an advanced student vocal ensemble with a vast repertoire.
